Volunteering with Room at the Table
Room at the Table is all about Volunteers! You can participate two ways - as a Food Team or as an Individual Volunteer.
Our Meal begins each night at 4pm. Volunteers arrive at that time to get things ready. The doors open for our guests at 5:15pm and dinner is served at 5:30pm.
After dinner is served, volunteers help clean up and the evening is over no later than 7pm. Both groups will work in tandem and do everything to provide the best experience for our guests each night.
Volunteering as a Food Team
If you would like to volunteer as a food team, you will be responsible for providing food and 12-15 volunteers to help. Your food team will provide food for 150 servings. You can cook on-site in our commercial kitchen or bring the food pre-prepared. You can choose the menu item you would like to serve, but we ask that you check with our Coordinator Emily Rhodes in advance, so that we can make sure we don’t have duplicates on our menu. A Team Leader will be there to help you with all of the details, as well as the team of Individual Volunteers.
To find out availability of dates for Food Teams, please contact Emily Rhodes, Room at the Table Coordinator at (256) 740-9835 for more information.
If you are interested in volunteering with Room at the Table, but are not part of a Food Team, you can serve as an individual volunteer. Volunteers help with setting up for the meal, providing any needed support for the Food Team and helping clean-up. Volunteers pick the dates you would like to serve. The individual volunteer shift is each night from 4:00 -7:00pm.
We ask that each volunteer attend a training before signing up to help. We will have a monthly training for interested volunteers and food teams. Please check out our Facebook page (@roomatthetableshoals) for monthly training events or email us at
